KARD recently sat down for an interview following their recent comeback with their 2nd mini album “You & Me” and talked about their incredible year and their families’ supportive response to their success.
The four-member co-ed group recently in an interview shared their thoughts on their incredible year. Member Somin says, “I fell like the past year has gone by really quickly. ‘Oh Na Na‘ came out and then ‘Don’t Recall‘ and the we were preparing for ‘Rumor’. We went on a world tour before our official debut, and there’s really been no rest. It’s tiring but I am so grateful. It’s such a valuable experience that couldn’t be bought with money. I’m so grateful to our fans and the people around us who work hard. I want to return the favor one day.”
Somin, has had a long journey as an idol before she became a part of KARD. She first made her debut in Japan in 2012, in the girl group ‘Puretty‘, after which she took part in the show “KARA Project” which was designed to find a new member for the girl group KARA. Afterwards, she debuted with the girl group APRIL but only briefly promoted with them before departing.
In the interview, Somin expressed her thoughts on her journey and said, “ I didn’t give up. I think it’s a relief that I’ve kept trying to achieve my dream. I don’t know what I’d be doing now if I’d given up on KARD too. I wouldn’t be having the same valuable experiences, of course.” She added, “I feel like I’m slowly going through the process of becoming an adult. I think that this past years have been the most precious in my life.”
J.Seph also expressed his happiness and said, “I always think about how grateful I am to be able to stand on stage. I’m grateful that I’ve been given great opportunities to be on stage.”
“Since all the members have trained for a long time, everything now feels like a large reward.“, Jiwoo added. She also expressed how grateful she is and said, “I’ve been given precious opportunities to be on the stage and I’m grateful for that.”
For BM, out of all the wonderful moments in the past year, the most memorable moment was performing in his hometown in Los Angeles, in front of his parents and relatives. He laughed as he explained, “My parents were really worried while I spent five to six years in Korea as a trainee. Whenever I’d call them, they’d worriedly tell me to come back home in the United States, but after the concert in Los Angeles they don’t say that anymore.”
“My father is from Brazil and so I think he’s even more proud because KARD is popular in Brazil.“, added BM. “He says he’s always watching our performances on YouTube. As their eldest son, just knowing that makes me feel a bit relieved and glad.”
Somin shared that her parents are also proud of her and that she is performing overseas, which makes her happy as well. Jiwoo added that her parents watch their YouTube videos on their television screen. “Even when I’m sleeping, my songs are still playing, so I listen to KARD songs even while I’m sleeping.“, she said. “My grandparents switched from flip phones to smart phones and now they enjoy searching for KARD videos on YouTube.”
The hard work and dedication of each member has definitely been a stepping stone to their success. All the member expressed how grateful they feel for being a part of KARD and for the strong support of their families, along with the love of their wonderful Hidden KARDs (fans) from all around the world.
In the meanwhile, KARD is preparing to kick start their Asia Tour in early 2018 with their first destination being Bangkok, Thailand on January 19th.
