BTS smashes another record as the group earns highest-charting and first Top 40 Hot 100 entry for a K-pop group, with “MIC Drop” peaking at No.28!
On December 4th, BTS breaks it own record for highest-charting entry on Billboard Hot 100 chart for a K-pop group, as “MIC Drop” featuring Desiigner, remixed by DJ Steve Aoki debuts at No. 28 on the chart for the week ending in December 16th. With this BTS makes its first Top 40 Hot 100 entry and also the first for any K-pop group to do so.
The fans also took to twitter to celebrate this incredible milestone as #BTSHOT100_28 trended No. 1 worldwide.
“MIC Drop” remix by DJ Steve Aoki featuring Desiigner also became the first song by a K-pop group to reach No.1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in the United States and also ranked high on charts in more than 60 countries.
The Billboard charts measure the most popular songs in the United States each week, with rankings determined by radio play, sales data and streaming activity data. According to Nielsen Music, “MIC Drop” has reached No. 28 on Hot 100 chart with 9.8 million streams in the United States in the first week and 45,000 downloads sold. Billboard has also noted that “MIC Drop” has received more radio play than BTS’s previous Hot 100 single “DNA” from their latest mini album “LOVE YOURSELF: Her” which peaked at No.67 on Billboard Hot 100 charts.
“MIC Drop” has also entered the Digital Song Sales chart at No. 4 (after “DNA” peaked at No. 37) and at No. 47 on the Streaming Songs chart (following “DNA” which came in at No. 38).
BTS previously achieved their dream of making it on to the Hot 100 chart when “DNA” debuted at No.85 on the chart which then went on to spend an incredible four weeks on the Hot 100, and set a record for K-pop groups when it reached No.67 in the second week.
After entering the Hot 100, BTS named on entering the Top 50 of the chart as their next goal, which they have now accomplished, by grabbing a spot in the “Top 40” of the chart.
